The Real Car
The real car behind this slotcar model is historically very important: the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #738 was the very first official factory-race debut version of the SLS AMG GT3.

Although the model car boxes sometimes speak of the "24h Nürburgring 2010", this specific car with start number 738 actually drove during the 8th round of the VLN championship (the 45. ADAC Barbarossapreis) on 25 September 2010 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The Facts of the Real Race Debut

The Riders: None other than five-time DTM champion Bernd Schneider and AMG test driver Thomas Jäger drove the car.

The Goal: The car participated out of competition in the special prototype class E1-XP. It was a pure live test under racing conditions before the car was officially delivered to customer teams in 2011.

Qualification: The car immediately showed its potential by qualifying as 3rd overall between 206 participants.

The Race: The debut was hectic. Already in the first lap, the car got involved in a crash. After repairs, the duo was able to continue their way to collect test data. Due to the bad weather and many other accidents, the race was flagged early, so they eventually finished as 91st overall.

Technical specifications of the real GT3

Engine: An atmospheric 6.2-litre V8 (the iconic M159 engine), which had been reduced to about 550 to 600 hp by the FIA air tractors.
Gearbox: Unlike the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic from the street car, the GT3 version was given a sequential six-speed transmission with flippers at the wheel.
Weight: Thanks to an intensive diet of carbon fiber (carbon) and an aluminum space frame, the racer weighed only about 1,350 kg (about 300 kg lighter than the street version).
Feature: Like the street car, the GT3 racer retained its iconic wing doors (Gullwing doors), combined with a giant adjustable rear wing and wide body kit for maximum downforce.
