Current market availability
Because this model appeared in a strictly limited edition quite a while ago, it is definitely sold out at most regular specialty stores. However, there are still some collector copies and residual stocks online.
The Scaleauto slotcar is a 1:32 scale replica of a genuine, one-off promotional showcar built by Mercedes-Benz in July 2010.
Here are the facts about the real-world vehicle:
• The Debut: Mercedes-Benz unveiled this spectacular, fully chromed SLS AMG GT3 at the German Formula 1 Grand Prix in Hockenheim in 2010.
• The Purpose: It was built specifically to promote and raise awareness for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, a charity organization co-founded by Mercedes-Benz's parent company (Daimler) to help vulnerable children worldwide through sports.
• The Finish: The striking, mirror-like finish was a specialized chrome wrap/paint applied directly over the race car’s carbon fiber body panels.
• Under the Hood: Beneath the shiny exterior, it was a full-spec FIA GT3 race car powered by a 6.2-liter AMG V8 engine pushing out roughly 550 horsepower.
Because it was a single, official factory showcar meant for the charity's presentation, Scaleauto captured its exact mirror look for the limited 1,000-piece slotcar release
